The Only Essential Oils You’ll Need This Winter

Essential Oils For Winter

Winter is here, and that means oversized sweaters, soft blankets and lots of coffee. While those are wonderful things, winter is also the season of colds, flu, dry skin and, sometimes, seasonal affective disorder. But there’s good news! The solution to all of these problems is essential oils for winter. Certain blends and methods of applying the oils are effective in preventing and curing these winter issues. We no longer need to dread winter, unless you hate the cold temperatures (I can’t help you there).

Antivirals

You no longer need to fear your coughing coworker or a crowded waiting room. All of the following oils, applied directly to your skin, are used for building your immune system: melaleuca, clove, cinnamon, peppermint, and eucalyptus (one drop of whichever you choose). You can also create a Protective Blend of five drops of thyme and five drops of oregano; rub the blend on your spine and on the bottoms of your feet for maximum effectiveness.

Common Illnesses

Bronchitis—Either diffuse the air or breathe in straight from the bottle with eucalyptus, white fir, or basil to calm the inflammation. Breathe in sandalwood or thyme to clear mucus.

Cold—Diffuse the air or breathe in thyme, lemon, or cedarwood to aid sneezing and congestion. Rub a drop or two of lemon on your spine to stop a runny nose. Breathe or rub a drop of peppermint on your upper lip to clear sinuses.

Flu—Diffuse lemon or cyprus into the air to ease your sinuses. Rub a drop of digestzen on your stomach for nausea and vomiting. 1-2 drops of either lavender or peppermint rubbed on your neck, feet, behind your ears and back will bring down a fever.

Seasonal Affective Disorder

Diffuse in the air or breathe in any of the following: lemon, frankincense, lavender, clary sage, rosemary or grapefruit. They can also be applied directly to skin, 1-2 drops of whichever you choose. Oils can be reapplied after 15 minutes if you feel no change, or you could try another oil to see if one works better than the previous. There’s also a blend you can create, specifically designed to boost your mood. It’s called the Invigoration Blend and it includes 15 drops each of orange, lemon, grapefruit, mandarin, tangerine, bergamot and clementine. With so many exotic, citrusy smells, how can you be sad about the weather? After blended, apply a drop to your wrists or diffuse to make your room smell like summertime. 

Dry Skin

If you’re in need of a moisturizer, apply a drop each of geranium and lavender to the dry area. For chapped and cracked skin, apply a drop of myrrh. Sandalwood and myrrh are useful for a dry face. If you like to indulge in baths, add four drops of geranium and two drops of Roman chamomile to the bath water. These oils will smooth bumps and irritations.

I could go on and on about the uses of these fantastic oils, but there’s enough info to get you started! You’ll be one step closer to a healthier, happier and more beautiful season when using essential oils for winter.
